Camp Shemesh

Now in its 24th season, Camp Shemesh is the JCA’s summer day camp. Located on the Amherst College campus, Camp Shemesh provides children ages 6-11 with a joyful, creative, spiritually rich and educationally sound Jewish day camp experience. The camp incorporates traditional camp activities (daily swims at the state-of-the-art Amherst College pool, arts and crafts, drama, music, and sports) into its Jewish-themed programming. Afternoon electives on subjects ranging from newspaper writing to folk dance are offered. The camp features a superb staff of senior counselors, junior counselors, and CITs and an excellent staff-to-camper ratio.

Five one-week sessions accommodating approximately 35 campers per session are offered. The camp operates Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m. and on Fridays from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. A Kabbalat Shabbat celebration featuring singing, dancing, and camp-baked challah is held every Friday; family members are encouraged to attend. Tuition and registration information is posted on this website in early February of each year. For more information about Camp Shemesh, including employment opportunities, please leave a message on the camp extension: 413-256-0160 ext. 250 or email: shemesh@j-c-a.org. .
